Scarlet Gouk is a saxophonist and educator hailing from Malaysia. With a warm and friendly demeanor, she has made a name for herself in the music industry through her remarkable skills and passion for her craft.
As a soloist, Scarlet has had the privilege to perform concerto alongside ensembles such as the Philharmonic Winds of Malaysia, Hong Kong Chamber Wind Philharmonia and Rangsit Symphony Orchestra, Thailand. She was also invited to perform in various international festivals including the Asia Saxophone Art Festival Beijing, The La Pampa Saxophone Festival, Mallorca Saxophone Festival, and RondoFest Malaysia. She is the Artist in Residence of the Society of Malaysian Contemporary Composers (SMCC) and she has premiered numerous works by talented young Malaysian composers.
Beyond her performances, Scarlet is equally passionate about music education. She has conducted workshops and masterclasses in collaboration with organizations and institutions, including the Philharmonic Winds Youth Malaysia, Arising Musicians Project Taiwan, Malaysian Institute of Art, Kuala Lumpur Performing Art Centre, The Rondo Production, Sungai Kedah Art Festival, and Cultural Economic Development Agency (CENDANA) Malaysia. She held the position of Music Faculty at University College Fairview, where she regularly organized concerts and workshops at Dominus Arts Venue to promote chamber music and the saxophone.
Scarlet was awarded scholarships for both her master’s and bachelor’s degrees. She completed her Master’s Degree in Saxophone Performance and Literature at The Eastman School of Music under the tutelage of Prof. Chien-Kwan Lin. Prior to that, she graduated with first-class honors in Music Performance from Mahidol University College of Music under the guidance of Prof. Shyen Lee. Some of her competition accolades include 1st prize in the first Asia Pacific Saxophone Competition (Solo Category), the distinction of being the 2nd runner-up in the Music Teacher’s National Association New York State Young Artist Competition and Thailand International Wind Ensemble Competition.
Based in Hong Kong, Scarlet continues to inspire people to learn and play saxophone through her artistry and unwavering dedication to music.
